Where Was Assemblyman Abbate When Victory Was Shut Down?

Posted on April 19th, 2008

As the Republican District Leader of the 49th Assembly District, I would like to voice my dismay in reading that Peter Abatte has found the time to be in a photo op at the ceremony of Century 21′s new parking spaces in Bay Ridge. My question to everyone is, where was Peter Abatte when Victory Memorial Hospital was being closed down?

All local newspapers mentioned elected officials in the area that have tried to avoid the closing of such a important institution which has played a vital role to the well-being of our area. I do not recollect Peter Abbate being mentioned as any one of these elected officials fighting to keep VMH open. The fact that he was not the Assemblymember of the geographic area in which VMH is located does not excuse the reality that many emergency room visits and patients to VMH have come from the 49th Assembly District. These parking spaces at Century 21 come from another district outside the 49th AD as well.

Looking for publicity should not be the primary concern of an elected official. One must conclude then, that the current representation of the 49th Assembly District is woefully inadequate.
